Our Art Department aims to support students in a visually stimulating and safe learning environment. The Art department strives to develop student’s understanding of the wider world, to foster their creativity and to develop student’s literacy and technical skills through the teaching of Art.

The Art curriculum covers a broad range of disciplines for example painting, drawing, printmaking, design, clay, collage, mixed media and contextual studies. The Art department places an emphasis on developing the drawing skills of all students.

The Art curriculum aims to introduce pupils to appreciate and understand the work of a wide range of historical and contemporary British and non-British artists, designers and illustrators.

The Art department offers a rich and varied programme of enrichment activities throughout the year; examples have included Art clubs, talks, gallery trips, a visit to an artist studio and exhibitions of student work.

GCSE and A Level Fine Art

Fine Art is a popular choice at GCSE and the Art department’s results have significantly exceeded the national average at A*-C for the past 10 years.

The annual end of year Art exhibition showcases the work of all GCSE and A Level students. Please take a look at our virtual Art Exhibition page for a showcase of some of the outstanding pieces of artwork that our students have created.

The Art department has a strong history of students who have studied A Level Art at Haggerston progressing onto studying Art at prestigious universities.
