Young Adult Thriller Book Author, Sue Wallman!
On 22 January 2024, Sue Wallman, the award-winning author of a series of young adult thrillers (Lying About Last Summer, See How They Lie, Your Turn to Die, Dead Popular & I Know You Did It) came to Haggerston. She gave a talk to year 7 and year 8 pupils in the assembly and answered lots of questions about publishing. Sue explained her writing process is a series of questions and answers, helping piece the story together but a book can go through many edits before finally being published. The pupils enjoyed a lot and were indeed inspired. She also ran a ‘Thriller Writing’ workshop which was fun and interactive! It seems we have quite a few budding authors at Haggerston.
At lunchtime the pupils got a chance to meet and greet Sue Wallman in the Library. We are lucky enough to have all the books in the library and many students have been inspired to try this wonderful author’s entertaining and thrilling books.
Football Writer Matt Oldfield Visit
Popular author Matt Oldfield (writer of the ’Ultimate Football Heroes’ book series) visited Haggerston on Monday 31st October 2022 and delivered an inspiring assembly to Year 7 and Year 8 outlining the importance of reading for pleasure. Later in his writing workshop he shared excellent tips to our future year 8 and 9 creative writers. Students were excited to be given the opportunity to meet Matt Oldfield in person and many purchased his books and were thrilled to get his autograph. Matt was really impressed by the student’s engagement, enthusiasm and behaviour during lunchtime and the assemblies. Well done Haggerston! A huge collection of Matt’s autographed books are available in the library.
