Haggerston School is a mixed, 11 to 18 community school in Hackney. It is a very good school. We are proud of our exceptionally diverse community. We have an ethos which is centred on high expectations and on valuing people. This creates a culture in which children and young people work hard and are nice to others. This, in turn, combined with excellent teaching and pastoral support, means that Haggerston provides an education which enables young people to make exceptional progress, to achieve highly, and to develop the skills to make a successful transition to adulthood when they leave.
We are fortunate to have excellent facilities and teaching spaces in a beautiful Grade II listed building designed originally by Erno Goldfinger, of which our drama, art, sports and technology spaces are exceptional. We are also fortunate to enjoy many benefits of being so close to the centre of London, including partnerships with large and small businesses and with London’s universities.
What makes Haggerston unique? Two aspects stand out: our standards in the creative arts are simply outstanding, and these subjects are crucial to our curriculum, and to the stimulation and nurturing of young people’s creative thinking skills – which they need as individuals, and we need as society – and our inclusive practice means that all students learn very well and make excellent progress no matter what their starting points.
