Accelerated Reader is a computer programme that helps manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Each child selects a book at their own level, reads it at their own pace and takes a short quiz: passing the quiz is an indication that they have understood what they have read.

Feedback based on quiz results helps teachers and librarians to guide a pupil, to set goals and to direct ongoing reading practice. Pupils can be guided in choosing books at an appropriate reading level that is challenging without being frustrating.

Children using AR have a free choice of the books they read, rather than having one assigned to them. This makes reading a much more enjoyable experience as they feel in control and can choose books that are interesting to them.

Accelerated Reader helps to track reading achievements easily and motivates pupils to read for pleasure. Students use Accelerated Reader through the library and in English lessons to support their reading. Accelerated Reader guides the children to read books that are at the right level for them, challenging their literacy skills and helping them to improve their reading. There are over 38,000 quizzes to choose from.

Well done to our Accelerated Reader and World Millionaire champions of the Spring term.

To take the quiz, you need to visit Renaissance Learning from the RM Unify launchpad (NOT via Google).
