The Music department is staffed by two specialist subject teachers in a suite of purpose built rooms. Music is taught across the school as a discrete subject with its own facilities and ethos; at KS3 all students have one timetabled hour, while at KS4 those studying for GCSE have three.

The department falls within the wider framework of the Expressive Arts Faculty, enabling a wide variety of cross curricular opportunities and shared expertise. The department is supported by a varied group of peripatetic instrumental teachers, who play a significant role in both broadening the scope of learning and assisting the growth of musical knowledge within the school.

The department has developed fruitful and on-going partnerships with many local organisations, including the Barbican and the City of London Music Service; it also engages on a regular basis with other Hackney schools and the wider community and continues to play a substantial role in borough events. In recent years a number of Haggerston students have continued their study at the Brit School; we feel the department supports and nourishes young people in their musical endeavours, and understands the wide range of interests and advantages that a compelling creative education can offer.
